Mr. Octavio Perez Pardo

Octavio Perez Pardo is an Agronomical Engineer, specialized in sustainable land management and in policies to combat desertification. Currently he is President of the College of Agronomic Engineering of Santiago del Estero (CIASE) and General Secretary of the Argentine Federation of Agronomic Engineering (FADIA). He has been involved in the UNCCD process for 25 years. Since 1992 he has participated in the process of negotiation and implementation of the UNCCD.

Mostly of this time he has been the official representative of Argentina, but also, we acted as an independent expert and represented CSOs, the role he is currently playing. He was member of the UNFCCC Adaptation Fund Board representing LAC region during the period December 2007 to November 2009 and coordinated of 74 (seventy-four) congresses, seminars, national and international, related to the combat of desertification.

He directed Seven GEF Projects on Land Degradation and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources Octavio is also professor of the “Master’s Degree in Environmental Law”, at the University of Buenos Aires Argentina. During his mandate with the UNCCD CSO panel Octavio would like to increase the follow up of the negotiation and implementation of the UNCCD, and maintain an active communication with the Secretariat and the subsidiary bodies of the UNCCD. He would also deem necessary to increase the number of accredited CSOs and their commitment to the principles of the UNCCD and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including objective 15.3 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
