Mr. Mauro Centritto

Dr. Centritto is the Director Institute for Sustainable Pant Protection-National Research Council of Italy. He is currently directing also the ENI-CNR Research Center “Water – Hypatia of Alexandria” and serves as Adjunct Professor at the PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He is a member of the editorial board for different plant scientific journals. He has an international experience in biosphere-atmosphere interactions and about 35 years of experience in collaborative research on climate change impact on crop growth and physiology (carbon assimilation, water relations, water optimization and water harvesting technologies, etc.) in relation to dry environments in Italy and Europe as well as in Africa, China and Pakistan. His scientific activity is directed to develop significant and sustainable progress in improving and adapting agricultural systems in conditions of increasing water scarcity and a changing climate. Dr. Centritto has coordinated several national and international projects. Dr. Centritto is a member of the Italian working group UNCCD-Land Degradation Neutrality Target Setting Programme (2016-present). He is also part of the consulting group of the Italian UNCCD Scientific and Technical Correspondent to contribute to the revision of the draft documents/technical guides of the Convention. In 2015, He participated as an invited scientist at the 3rd UNCCD Scientific Conference on “Combating desertification, land degradation and drought for poverty reduction and sustainable development” Conference (Cancún, Mexico) contributing as a member of the International Panel of Experts at the Impulse Report – Climate change and desertification: Anticipating, assessing & adapting to future change in drylands by Reed M.S., Stringer L.C.. Then, as a member of the Italian Delegation, Dr Centritto partecipated to the UNCCD COP12 (Ankara, Turkey, 2015) and COP13 (Ordos, China, 2017). In this latter COP 13, he presented the LDN action in Italy at the Side Event “Achieving Land Degradation Neutrality in Europe: Meeting the challenge”.
